Goat Breeds We Carry
Boer Goats
The standard meat goat in Texas — white bodied with a red head, heavily muscled, and fast growing. If you are raising goats for meat, or buying for a show project, this is almost always the breed you want. See our Boer goat page.
Pygmy Goats
Small, stocky, and good natured. Pygmies are bought mostly as pets, as companion animals for horses, and by families with small acreage. They are the goat most often asked for by buyers who are not running a livestock operation. See our Pygmy goat page.
Nubian Goats
Long droopy ears, Roman nose, and the most vocal goat you will ever own. Nubians are a dairy breed known for high butterfat milk, and they are the usual starting point for a family that wants their own goat milk. See our Nubian goat page.
Crossbred and Commercial Goats
A large share of what we sell is crossbred. For brush control, for meat, or for building a commercial herd, crosses are frequently the practical buy — hardy, adaptable, and less expensive than registered stock.
Other breeds come through the farm from time to time. If you are looking for something specific, tell us and we will let you know whether we have it.
What Are You Buying Goats For?
Telling us the job the goat has to do is the fastest way to get to the right animal.
- Meat. Boer and Boer crosses. Look for growth and muscling.
- Milk. Nubian or another dairy breed. You are buying an animal you will handle twice a day, so temperament matters as much as production.
- Brush and weed control. Goats browse rather than graze — they go after brush, briars, and saplings that cattle will not touch. Crossbred does are usually the sensible choice, and you want more animals rather than better ones.
- Show projects. Boer wethers for 4-H and FFA. Call early and tell us your show date.
- Pets and companions. Pygmy goats, and always more than one. A single goat alone is a stressed goat.
Before You Bring Goats Home
Goats are hardy animals with two persistent weaknesses. Nearly every problem new owners have traces back to one of them.
Fencing — This Is the Big One
The saying in the goat business is that if a fence will not hold water it will not hold a goat. Goats climb, push, squeeze, and test everything. Woven wire or goat panels, tight to the ground, with no gaps a head can fit through. A goat that gets its horns stuck in field fence is a real and recurring problem.
Get the fence right before the goats arrive, not after the first escape. We build fencing, custom gates, and pens and do welding, and some goat buyers have us do the fence at the same time.
Parasites
Internal parasites are the leading health problem for goats in the humid parts of Texas, and they cause more losses than anything else. Have a management plan and a working relationship with a vet before you need one. Do not wait until an animal is down.
Shelter and Company
Goats need shelter from rain and wind — they tolerate cold far better than they tolerate being wet. And they are herd animals. Buy at least two. A goat kept alone will be loud, stressed, and harder to keep in a fence.

Can I buy just one goat?
You can, but you should not. Goats are herd animals and a single goat kept alone does poorly. Buy at least two.
Do you buy goats as well as sell them?
Yes. We buy and sell livestock continuously. If you have goats to move, call us.
What kind of fence do I need for goats?
Woven wire or goat panels, tight to the ground, with openings small enough that a horned goat cannot get its head through. Barbed wire and standard field fence will not hold goats reliably.
